Every command, every key, and how to get a window back.

Commands

Type these into the command line at the bottom of the console window, or pick one from the chip rows above it. Matching is case-insensitive, the leading slash is optional, and a prefix is enough — /w resolves to /work. Where a command has a document behind it, that page is linked, and it can be shared, bookmarked and printed on its own.

Actions

Everything the machine can do, and every surface it can be done from. One array backs the command line, the chip rows, the command palette, the menu bar and the mobile command sheet, which is why the same action is never spelled two different ways in two places.

• Copy Link To This View — Put the canonical URL of the focused surface on the clipboard. Reachable from the menu bar.
• Start A New Chat — Clear the transcript and replay the opening messages. Reachable from the command line, the command palette, the menu bar and the mobile command sheet. Type /clear.
• Replay The Boot Screen — Run the BIOS sequence again from the first line. Reachable from the command line, the command palette, the menu bar and the mobile command sheet. Type /boot.

• Centre The Window — Move the focused window back to the middle of the workspace. Reachable from the menu bar.
• Reset The Window Size — Return the focused window to its default width and height. Reachable from the menu bar.
• Fast-Forward The Response — Paint the rest of the streaming response in one frame. Reachable from the command line. Type /skip.
• Open The Year Chip — Open the panel behind the year chip in the status bar. Reachable from the command line. Type /1995.
• Focus The Command Line — Move focus to the command input and prefill the slash. Reachable from a key binding only. Press /.

Keyboard shortcuts

The first spelling is macOS, the second is Windows and Linux. Where only one is shown, the chord is identical on both.

3 of these are single-key shortcuts. They never fire while the caret is inside a text field, and they can be switched off entirely in Preferences, under Motion & Access.

Getting a window back

Windows remember where you left them, per browsing session. If one ends up somewhere unhelpful, nothing is lost and nothing needs clearing by hand:

• Reset The Layout — Return every window and the launcher to their opening positions. Reachable from the command line, the command palette, the menu bar and the mobile command sheet. Type /reset.
• Minimise The Window — Send the focused window down to its task-shelf button. Reachable from the menu bar and the window title bar. Press Ctrl+M.
• Maximise The Window — Expand the focused window to fill the workspace, or restore it. Reachable from the window title bar.
• Tile The Open Windows — Split the workspace between the focused window and its source. Reachable from the menu bar. Press Ctrl+\.
• Centre The Window — Move the focused window back to the middle of the workspace. Reachable from the menu bar.
• Reset The Window Size — Return the focused window to its default width and height. Reachable from the menu bar.

A minimised window is still open — its button stays in the middle of the task shelf, and clicking it brings the window back to the position it left from. Stored geometry is clamped to the viewport every time it is read, so a window can never be restored off the edge of the screen; if the stored state is unreadable it is discarded and the layout opens at its defaults. Reset the layout puts every window and the desktop launcher back where they started.

Motion, theme and text

Preferences are stored in this browser and nowhere else. They apply on the next paint, and they are read before the first paint, so the theme never flashes.

• Atmosphere — follow this device, or pin Daylight or Nightshift.
• Motion — Full, Reduced, None. This is independent of the operating-system setting in both directions: if your device asks for reduced motion the site starts there, and you can still turn motion back up.
• Density — comfortable or compact spacing across the whole workspace.
• Single-key shortcuts — on or off, for the 3 bindings listed above.

Accessibility

The desktop is an enhancement. The documents are the product, and they do not depend on it.

• Every route is rendered on the server. With JavaScript disabled you still get the whole document — its heading structure, its prose and every link out of it.
• A skip link is the first focusable element on every page, and each document has exactly one h1 with headings in order below it.
• Focus is always visible: a two-pixel ring on every link, button, field, menu item and window control, never removed and never relying on colour alone.
• Menus are real menus. They open with the keyboard, move with the arrow keys, accept Home, End and type-ahead, close on Esc, and return focus to the control that opened them.
• The page is zoomable. No maximum scale is set anywhere, so pinch-zoom and browser zoom both work, and the layout reflows into one column rather than scrolling sideways.
• Motion honours prefers-reduced-motion before you touch anything, and the Preferences control overrides it in either direction.
• Colour is never the only signal. A focused window is shown by its title-bar fill and its bevel; a running application is shown by a pressed bevel on its shelf tile, not by a dot.
• Every text pair in the palette meets WCAG AA. The lowest measured ratio anywhere is white on the teal desktop at 4.77:1; the highest is black on the pale-yellow bubble at 20.4:1.
• The one known contrast defect is inherited from Windows 95 itself: white text would fall below 4.5:1 in the last eight per cent of the title-bar gradient. Title text is constrained to the first 92% of the bar at every window width, so it never renders there, and long titles truncate rather than run into it.
